The Legend of Madame Moustache

The first blackjack pro… was a woman! Eleanor Dumont was a petite Frenchwoman with dark fuzz on her upper lip that earned her the nickname Madame Moustache. She came to the Wild West in 1854, in the middle of the Gold Rush in California. In the mining town Nevada City she set up her first blackjack establishment, the Vingt-et-Un, where she fleeced the unwary but always treated the losers to champagne afterwards. After a famous gambling career of thirty years she committed suicide in Bodie, California. To read more about Eleanore Dumont, check out our blackjack professionals section.
