Today’s professional is Edward O. Thorp. An appropriate blackjack player to start off with, since he was the first to mathematically prove that it was possible to beat the dealer at blackjack by counting cards, and devised a number of card counting systems of his own. Thorp’s lasting legacy led to the adjustment of casino rules and the development of more advances and more accessible card counting systems.
Thorp’s 1962 best-selling book Beat the Dealer has also been added to our blackjack books section to complete the picture. This classic is the book that Thorp wrote in response to the demand for information on his winning strategies.
