Manager Attempts to Pay Stolen Cash Back Through Blackjack

Benjamin Metcalf, managing director of a Nando’s restaurant in Edinburgh, Scotland, was discovered to have swiped over 10.000 pounds (over R115.000) from the till of the restaurant of which he was in charge. Metcalf admitted he was guilty of embezzling the five-figure sum, but explained that he intended to pay it all back playing blackjack in the Circus Casino next door to the Nando’s restaurant. The prosecutor’s rather dry response was that it seemed “a rather unsafe strategy”.

Despite his pleas, the police did not allow Metcalf, who also admitted to a gambling addiction, to see if his talent was as good as his word.
