Atlantic City Casinos Fined for Dealing a 51-Card Game

Last week the Casino Control Commision issued Atlantic City’s Showboat Casino Hotel a $10,000 (R77,650) fine and Bally’s Atlantic City was charged a fine of $18,000 (R139,755), both for the same offence, namely dealing blackjack out of a 51-card deck. Both casinos have offered similar excuses. The Showboat claimed that when the 3 of hearts got stuck in the automatic shuffler the fact went unnoticed for four hours. The same infraction at Bally’s was caused by a dealer ignoring the flashing warning light on the automatic shuffler that indicated that the deck was short. Ignored it for nine hours.

Despite these excuses, the Casino Control Commission deservedly went ahead with charging the fines. After all, you can’t blame it on the shuffler when the dealer chooses to ignore the warnings it keeps giving.
